Happy Back to School Week! Many parents around the state are breathing a sigh of relief as their child returns to the routine of the school year.
As a counselor, I love these built-in "fresh starts" for families. This time of year gives you the perfect excuse to set the pace for the coming academic year at home as well as school.
Studies show that structure and clear expectations at home help students perform more successfully at school, in sports, and at work.
Areas to Review with Children:
Chores and Household Tasks
Behavior Expectations (consider using a behavior chart to help)
Rules about alcohol and other drugs
Rules about sexual behaviors and relationships (including how to report unwanted contact)
