What Is EDIT™ – Eating Disorder Intuitive Therapy?

 

Eating Disorder Intuitive Therapy (EDIT)™ is the treatment approach developed by Dr. Dorie McCubbrey, PhD, MSEd, LPC, LAC, CEDS – which she discovered on her own journey of recovery from Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder, Food Addiction and Obesity. As a Licensed Addiction Counselor and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist, Dr. Dorie has used this approach to guide thousands of clients on their journeys of recovery. She has written about this method in her two books, Dr. Dorie’s Don’t Diet Book (1998, Positive Pathways Press) and How Much Does Your Soul Weigh (2003, HarperCollins), where it was formerly known as, “Intuitive Self-Care.”

In 2013, Dr. Dorie renamed this approach Eating Disorder Intuitive Therapy (EDIT)™ when she launched her training and certification programs for counselors, dietitians, health coaches, and other wellness professionals. Since that time, hundreds of people are now EDIT™ Certified, in countries including the United States, Canada, Australia, and many more.

The EDIT™ approach involves making “thought ED-ITs” to shift from the mindset of the Eating Disorder (ED) to the healing wisdom of the Intuitive Therapist (IT) within you. At first, the voice of ED may be all that you can hear, but you can turn up the volume of IT by practicing the five principles of EDIT™:

Allow for the AUTHENTICITY of your emotions — from the depths of depression to the pinnacles of elation — and learn how to feel your way through your life with COPING SKILLS in your recovery.

 

GIVE TO YOUR SELF

Discover how to NOURISH your Self from within — spiritually, emotionally, mentally, physically — and let this be your PRACTICE for ongoing recovery and overall wellbeing.

 

BELIEVE IN YOUR SELF

Learn how to AWAKEN your True Self — every day in a new way — to live in FREEDOM from eating disorders and enjoy the life you were meant to live.
