Course Description

Join us in this fun skill-building training that will add a valuable tool to your therapeutic toolbox. We will review the current research about the use of metaphor with clients in treatment, practice developing meaningful metaphors for common presenting problems, and overcome barriers to implementing metaphors in treatment.

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

• Describe the benefits of metaphors as outlined in relevant literature review;
• Develop meaningful metaphors for client-specific problems;
• Implement metaphors in psychotherapy practice; and,
• Identify potential barriers to the use of metaphor in psychotherapy.
