Course Description

This course defines intimate partner abuse and relationship violence, identifies and explains the power and control tactics used in domestic violence, explores the batterer attitudes and effects of abuse on all affected parties, and reviews the prevalence of domestic violence. Additionally, treatment goals and interventions are practiced through discussion of case scenarios, as well as a review of relevant local and online resources pertaining to domestic violence.

Course Objectives

Participants will:

  • Define intimate partner abuse and relationship violence

  • Differentiate between DV and Anger Management

  • Identify and explain power and control tactics used in DV

  • Identify and assess Batterer Attitudes

  • Understand the effects of DV on batterers, victims, and children

  • Understand the prevalence and incidence of relationship abuse/violence

  • Develop individualized treatment goals for batterers and victims

  • Become familiar with local and online resources for DV batterers and victims

About the Presenter

Julie L. Williams, MSEd, LMHC evaluates and treats individuals who perpetrate and are victims of intimate partner violence within domestic violence relationships. She has extensive presentation and has research interests regarding the assessment and treatment for perpetrators of sex trafficking. Julie is the co-owner of Thrive Counseling & Consultation, LLC where she provides individual and couples counseling as well as clinical supervision and consultation in the Tampa Bay Area.
