#ItGetsBetter

The only constant in life is change. We literally become a different person every 7 years as we regenerate every cell in our body. Whatever you experience this very moment will be different in the next moment. The differences may be slight and not "on schedule," but they are there.

When I think back over the last year, decade, and century... how much has changed! Historians tend to take a revisionist stance, focusing on only the positive advances and ignoring the negative. But this only tells half of the story. Without the battle, there would be no victory. How would you know you were strong if you were never challenged?

I admire the #ItGetsBetter movement that began in 2010 to instill hope for individuals in the LGBTQ+ community around the world facing prejudice and discrimination. The message is that as you are not alone.

Not sure where to go from here? Talk to someone else who has been there.

Not sure what to say or do? Talk to someone who has said and done.

There is strength in numbers, but not because they will fight the battle for you. They will cheer you on, pick you up when you are down, help you train, discuss strategy, advise your next move, and show up. Every win teaches you what to do again, and every loss teaches you what not to do. Don't be afraid to live and make mistakes, because that is how we learn. That is how it gets better.

There is no magic pill or saying or guru to follow. Life gets better by living it, one mistake at a time.
